What Is a Condenser?

Cooling systems are an essential part of our lives. Condensers can be found in air conditioners we use to cool off during the summer months and in refrigerators used to preserve food and beverages. A condenser is a device that facilitates the transformation of the substance entering the cooling device as a gas into a liquid by dispersing its heat to the surroundings.

Requirements for Proper Operation of a Condenser

The healthy operation of condensers extends the life of the cooling device and provides energy savings.

Having a large surface area allows a condenser to perform more effective heat transfer. Regular maintenance and cleaning are necessary. Without regular maintenance, the risk of malfunction increases. Try to keep your cooling device and the condenser part away from dusty and dirty environments. The frequency of cleaning affects the performance and lifespan of the condenser during operation. Don't forget to have condenser cleaning done at least once a year.

Types of Condensers

The working principle of condensers is based on the transfer of heat to facilitate the condensation process and they generally have a tube-like structure. Inside this tube-like structure, there is a refrigerant and a series of tubes. These tubes are in contact with the external air and the cooling medium. Condenser tubes gradually lower the temperature of the environment to be cooled.

Air-Cooled: Air is used as the condensing medium. Water-Cooled: Water is used as the condensing medium. Evaporative: Both air and water are used together.

How to Maintain Condenser?

How to Perform Condenser Maintenance You should remove any refrigerant from the condenser. You should only do this with pressurized gas and avoid contact with hard objects. Drain the water inside by cutting off the water supply. Disconnect the fan, pump motor, and feeding current cables. Remove the pipes that circulate the water. Remove the air fan from its housing. Take out the fan's blade and ensure it is clean, and check for any damage to the blade. Separate the pump from its base frame. Then, disconnect the motor from the pump and perform the necessary cleaning. Remove the drip holders on top of the water spray nozzles and check if the nozzles are clogged, or if there is any size mismatch in the holes.
